The Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský International Vocal Competition is held every two years in Trnava, Slovakia.

 

Competition Objective
The main goal of the competition is to support young singers, encourage their artistic growth, and promote vocal works with a focus on the compositions of Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský. The competition also serves to select participants for further international singing competitions.
 

About Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský
This prestigious Slovak singing competition is named after Mikuláš Schneider-Trnavský, whose name resonates in both professional and lay communities as a creator of artificial and spiritual songs, an arranger of folk songs, and an author of sacred vocal-instrumental compositions. Schneider-Trnavský was also a significant co-founder of music and educational institutions in professional musical culture.

 

History and Achievements
Among the winners of previous editions of the competition are notable personalities such as Peter Dvorský, Ľubica Orgonášová, Miroslav Dvorský, Gustáv Beláček, Magdaléna Kožená, Štefan Kocán, Terézia Kružliaková, Slávka Zámečníková, and many others.

 

Categories and Jury
The competition takes place in two categories, determined by the difficulty of the presented repertoire. The chair of the international jury is the renowned interpreter and pedagogue of vocal art, Eva Blahová (Slovakia). Other jury members include Jozef Kundlák (Slovakia), Peter Dvorský (Slovakia), Martina Zadro (Croatia), Tadeusz Pszonka (Poland), Atilla Kiss (Hungary), Mihailo Arsenski (Germany), Ariane Hollaender-Calix (Austria), and Wiktor Bockman (Switzerland). The piano accompaniment is provided by répétiteurs Xénia Šuleř Maskalíková (Slovakia) and Róbert Pechanec (Slovakia).

 

Course of the Competition
The five competition days, during which candidates from around the world present themselves to the jury, culminate in a ceremonial award ceremony and a concert featuring the winners. In addition to the main prizes awarded in the two categories, several special awards will also be presented by the Music Center, the City of Trnava, the Trnava Self-Governing Region, the Music Fund, and other partners, including the opportunity to guest perform in partner theaters in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
